The T-Fal Actifry is called a multi-cooker which is a bit of an understatement: You can prepare many different healthy meals in it and with little to no oil.

Some example meals include:

Fries made from fresh potatoes. You can make 2 pounds with just 1 tablespoon of oil. Using frozen pre-made fries does not require any additional oil.

Stir-fry dishes including fried rice, vegetable stir-fries, and risotto.

Compotes (the included recipe booklet has a recipe for it)

Chicken wings or drumsticks turn out great in the Actifry. No extra oil needed for this.

Granola (also in the recipe book)

Roasted nuts

Limitations of the T-Fal Actifry

Of course, it’s not all perfect with the Actifry. There are some things it can not prepare or is not very good at preparing:

You can prepare breaded items such as nuggets if you bought them frozen. However, foods that are freshly prepared with wet batter will not get cooked well. It will turn into a right mess courtesy of the rotating paddle.

The Actifry can not cook soups or stews; You still need a (crock)pot.

Other Limitations of the Actifry:

The paddle is removable for cleaning but needs to be used during cooking. This to prevent cooking vapor or oil dripping into the motor unit, which could defect the machine.

There’s only 1 temperature setting of 338 degrees Fahrenheit, which can be a disadvantage for certain foods.

How To Use The T-Fal Actifry

The Actifry FZ7002 is very user-friendly: There are only 2 buttons to use and pre-heating is not necessary.

Open the lid, add the food, set the timer, and click the on/off button.

When the timer reaches zero there will be a buzzing sound. However the air fryer will not shut down automatically, so you need to turn the power off yourself.

Cleaning The Actifry

The Actifry has 4 removable parts that are dishwasher safe: the paddle, the lid, the non-stick pan, and the filter.

You can also soak these parts in warm soapy water and then dry them with a towel.

Use a damp cloth to clean the inside and outside of the base. The base itself can not be immersed in water.

Pros

Does not require pre-heating

A healthy way to cook

No smelly kitchen thanks to the mesh filter

Easy to use (just 2 buttons)

Easy to clean

Can prepare stir-fried Asian dishes (This the only air fryer that can do this to date!)

Cons

No auto shut-off

The outside of the machine gets warm during use

1 temperature setting of 338 Fahrenheit

Battered or breaded frozen food tend to lose some of their coatings. Solution: par fry these items first, but you would use more oil.

The bottom line

The Actifry is very suitable for making fries and Asian-style foods with a lot less fat than with conventional cooking methods such as the wok and deep fryer. It’s also hands-free cooking and very suitable for busy folks with not a lot of time on their hands to cook and clean.

Philips Airfryer vs Tefal Actifry – Which is Better?

Buying an air fryer is not something you go about lightly. After all, they do cost a fair amount of money and you would like an air fryer to fit your needs and to last for a few years right?

When you start investigating online and reading a few air fryer reviews, you will most likely come across these 2 very popular air fryers: The Philips Airfryer and the Tefal Actifry.

Both are excellent air fryers, but when it comes to Philips Airfryer vs Tefal Actifry which one should you buy?

We decided to compare Tefal Actifry and Philips Airfryer to help you make an informed decision.

Philips AirFryer Overview

The Philips AirFryer uses its patented rapid air technology to fast and evenly fry food leaving it moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. Rapid Air Technology is essentially created by a heating element and a fan: the element heats up the air while the fan moves the hot air all around the food.

Depending on the model, the food will be prepared in a 1.65 pounds or 2.2 pounds cooking basket with a mesh bottom. All fat and liquid resulting from cooking will drip into a non-stick tray ensuring a low-fat and healthier meal.

The Philips AirFryer cooking basket can be used to prepare a multitude of foods, think fries, drumsticks, fish, cakes, vegetables, and more.

There are accessories available to expand or improve the cooking options of the Philips hot air fryer. The Philips HD9230 has 1 accessory included: a metal rack to double layer the food so you can cook 2 foods in 1 go.

The Tefal Actifry has a different way of cooking: Food gets cooked in a non-stick ceramic bowl while a rotating paddle “stirs”the food. There are some upsides to this method:

The food does not stick to the bowl

The Actifry is great for Asian stir-fry dishes like rice and noodles.

There’s also a downside to the way the Actifry cooks:

The Actifry can not be used to bake a cake, since there’s a stirring paddle in the middle of the bowl. This is however possible in the Philips air fryer with the optional baking dish.

The Actifry is easy to use but has only 1 temperature setting of 338 F.

The Bottom Line

Both air fryers have great features and are suitable for many food preparations. Deciding which one to buy basically comes down to your own intended use:

The Philips AirFryer is suitable for a range of foods from fries to cakes, but less suitable for preparing Asian dishes. Also, the cheapest Philips models have a capacity of 1.8 pounds, whereas the Actifry has only 1 model with a capacity of 2.2 pounds.

You can expand the possibilities of the Philips AirFryer by buying optional accessories, but that would make the Philips AirFryer a lot more expensive than the Actifry.

The Tefal Actifry on the other hand can prepare most frozen foods and snacks plus Asian stir-fry dishes. If this is your favorite food then I would wholeheartedly recommend the Tefal.
