How Do We Choose The Best Air Fryers?
When it comes to buying air fryers, there’s an overwhelming choice at the moment and people do get confused with all the options.
We categorize and rate certain aspects of an air fryer like the following:
Features – The air fryer controls (analog vs digital), are there any accessories or other colors available, any other unique features?
Capacity – How many people can you feed, air fryer heating times, does it need preheating, can you prepare several foods in one go?
Quality – Are there any known issues with the air fryer, does the air fryer come with a warranty?
Customer reviews – Real customers reporting issues. We particularly pay attention to recurring issues, where several customers report the same problem.
What to Consider When Buying An Air Fryer?
“Which air fryer to buy” is one of the most asked questions. I usually answer: What are you looking for in an air fryer?
Before you buy an air fryer consider the following features:
An air fryer can cost anywhere from $50 to well over $300. You can certainly buy a good air fryer for $50, but it will have less features than a high end model.
Of course prices change over time, the longer a model is on the market, the cheaper it gets.
The cheaper air fryers are usually smaller and have only analog controls. This can work really well for a small family or a student living in a dorm room.
The high end air fryers usually come with a larger capacity, digital controls (with preset programs) and extra accessories.
Such air fryers are best for large families or people who entertain a lot of guests.
Air fryers range in capacity from 1 quart to almost 6 quarts.
A small air fryer with a 1 quart capacity suits a 1-2 person household and prepares 1-2 servings of French fries or a few chicken wings.
Large air fryers suits families of 5-6 persons and can make 5-6 servings of fries or a whole chicken.
So work out the size of your family and how much food you will be preparing. Also consider any guests you might be entertaining on a regular basis.
If you have a small household, but you entertain a lot of guests on a regular basis, it still makes sense to buy a large air fryer! It will be a time saver!
Analog vs digital controls: it’s all a matter of personal preference and one is not necessarily better than the other!
Analog controls are really easy to manage, because there are usually 2 knobs: 1 for temperature and 1 for time.
People who don’t like all the fuss of a digital display will prefer the manual controls.
Digital controls have more options to master, but can be huge time-savers.
Options like presets for popular foods like French fries, fish, meat and more.
Some air fryers have the possibility to enter your custom presets for the foods you prepare the most, so you can just pop in the food and press the button!
Air fryers range in power from 1200 to 2000 watts. The higher the wattage the faster the food will be ready.
A lower wattage air fryer usually heats up to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, while a higher wattage air fryer can heat up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Ease of Cleaning
Air fryers are usually easy to clean.
Removable parts like the frying basket and the basket drawer can be popped into the dishwasher.
The base unit can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Don’t use any abrasive sponges!
Most air fryer models have non-stick coating that prevent food sticking to the surface. Any residue can be easily removed without scrubbing.
Always consult the manual of your air fryer for the best advice on how to clean it.
