To help you get started, I’ve answered some of the most common questions people have about adapting oven recipes to the air fryer:
Do air fryers cook faster than ovens?
Yes! Air fryers cook food faster and more efficiently than ovens.
A good rule of thumb: reduce the oven temperature by about 25°F (or 15°C) when using your air fryer. This helps prevent overcooking or burning your food.
My calculator takes care of this adjustment for you!
How do you convert Celsius oven temperatures to air fryer?
To convert Celsius oven temperatures for an air fryer, just drop the oven temperature by about 10–20°C.
Say a recipe wants 180°C in a regular oven—set your air fryer to 160–170°C instead.
Also, you’ll want to cut the cooking time by around 20–25%, since air fryers work faster thanks to all that rapid air movement.
So, if your oven recipe says 180°C for 30 minutes, try 160–170°C in the air fryer for about 22–24 minutes.
Definitely check for doneness as you go—air fryers can surprise you sometimes.
How much should I shorten the cooking time?
Air fryers usually cook food about 20% faster than ovens. For example, if a recipe says to bake something for 20 minutes, you’d air fry it for about 16 minutes.
Always check your food a little early to make sure it doesn’t overcook—every air fryer is a bit different!
Can I use the same pans and dishes in the air fryer as I do in the oven?
Not always. Most oven-safe pans fit in the air fryer, but you’ll need to make sure they’re small enough for your air fryer basket.
I recommend using silicone molds, small metal pans, or parchment paper liners designed for air fryers for best results.
Do I need to preheat my air fryer like I do with an oven?
It depends on your air fryer model, but preheating is usually much faster than with an oven—just 2-3 minutes! Some recipes turn out better with a quick preheat, especially for baked goods or when you want extra crispiness.
What foods convert best from oven to air fryer?
So many! Chicken, veggies, frozen foods, and baked goods all work great.
Foods that you want crispy or golden brown are perfect for the air fryer. Just remember to give everything a little shake or flip halfway through for even cooking.
